The 3rd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest

Here is Beth with her entry for the Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest...(sweet new down vest!)

If it looks a little withered in this pic, its because it sat out all morning in the hot sun. Notice the detailed leaf decor, falling in with the autumn theme. Also, notice the creative way to carve the opening in the top.

So this is Ken's Pumpkin-Carving Contest Entry.

Here is a shot of Ken working on his pumpkin. I tried a new approach this year. Its the pumpkin-sculpting approach.

Here's a shot of Ken and his finished pumpkin.

Here's a shot of Ken and Beth's pumpkin's side by side.

Make sure you vote for your favorite pumpkin in the comments section. The contestants are: Beth Flower, Ken Flower, Scott Burns (if he puts up a picture of his pumpkin), Billy Blakey and his future wife Corey (if he puts up a picture), and Jessi Gates. Check out their blogs for their pumpkin pictures and vote on your favorite pumpkin.

I refuse to vote for Ken's pumpkin on the grounds that I woke up this morning still finding pumpkin chips stuck to my clothing. Scott hasn't posted his design yet; still he definitely gets my vote, if for no other reason than the joy of watching his design develop from turtle to sphincter to "gads-what-is-that?!"

Well, I feel sad that everyone can't win..I guess we're all winners in God's eyes. Since not all the subjects are able to be viewed on-line, this might be a premature vote. However, it's their fault that they haven't posted their pics yet (Burns and Blakey). So, as much as I think everyone did a bang up job, I'm going with the Gates gourds.

My vote is for Jessi's gourds...major points for originality but keeping in the spirit of the season.

Major props to the sculpted pumkin, though. That's a new one on me!

What a great idea! I like this. Well, after much consideration today, I vote for...wait, first let me say that I really appreciated. I loved Beth's pumpkin because it was pretty, reminded me of Martha...Ken's used a creative technique and Jessi's idea was very spooky...all that to say, thanks for the holiday fun and I vote for Ken's.

I applaud Bethie's lovely autumn-art themed pumpkin. While I love Jessi and Ken, and their scary creations, sweet Beth gets the Queen Mother vote.

There should be multiple awards.

Best in Show — Jessi
Most elegant — Beth
Most involved / most reflective of the personality of the carver — Ken
Most sickeningly sweet — Blakey
Most stomach-churning — Burns

FOR ALL VOTERS!!!

There is a somewhat tardy entry into the competition that I hope you will give your consideration before you cast your final vote.

Enjoy.

I vote for the Hawaii pumpkin by Bill and Cory. Although the gourd entry looked great in the dark. the Hawaii pumpkin looked good both lit and unlit.
